This Privacy Policy describes how Shadecrest handles information when you use the App. We built it to work without requiring an account, email address, or any real-world personal information — what little data we do collect supports optional online features and helps us fix bugs.
On first launch, the App generates a random identifier (a UUID created on your device using a standard random-number routine). This ID is not derived from your device's hardware — it is not your IMEI, MAC address, Android ID, or advertising ID, and it cannot be used to identify you personally. It is stored on your device and used solely to:
You may enter a display name (up to 24 characters) in Settings. This name is shown publicly on the global leaderboards alongside your scores, and is also attached to cloud backups, bug reports, and crash reports you submit. Do not enter your real name or any other personal information as your display name — any name you choose is visible to other players.
To power leaderboards and cloud saves, the App may transmit gameplay information such as: class played, run outcome, score, floors reached, penance level, elapsed time, and similar in-game statistics. None of this reflects anything about you outside the game.
If you choose to back up your progress, the App uploads your local save data — class progression, statistics, Hall of Fame records, codex/collection unlocks, and in-progress run saves — associated with your anonymous device ID. You can later restore this data on the same or a different device by entering the associated device ID as a "Backup ID."
The App uses Sentry, a third-party crash-reporting service, to automatically capture information when the App crashes or encounters an error. This may include: the error message and stack trace, a list of screens you recently visited, basic device/app information that the Sentry SDK collects by default (OS version, device model, app version, and locale), your anonymous device ID, and your display name (if set). Crash reporting is active only in published builds of the App, not during development.
We do not use Sentry for analytics, advertising, performance tracing, or session recording — it is configured for crash/error reporting only.
If you choose to submit a bug report or feedback through Settings, the App sends your written description, the category you selected (bug / balance / suggestion), your anonymous device ID, your display name, the app version, and a snapshot of your current in-game context so we can investigate. The in-app form discloses this before you submit.
When you open and close the App, it records the start time, end time, and duration of your play session, along with your anonymous device ID, app version, and platform (iOS/Android/web). This data is used solely to generate aggregate analytics visible to the development team (e.g. daily active users, average session length). Very short sessions (under 5 seconds) are discarded automatically.
The App does not request or access your camera, microphone, contacts, location, photos/media, or any other device permissions — it requests no permissions at all. It contains no advertising or in-app-purchase SDKs, no push notifications, and no social-media or third-party sign-in. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, physical address, payment information, or any government-issued identifiers. Session tracking (§1.7) and run telemetry (§1.3) are handled in-house via our own database — no third-party analytics SDKs are used. The only time we receive a name or email address is when you choose to contact us yourself (§1.9).
The contact form on ahemstudios.com lets you send us a message about Shadecrest or our other work. It sends the topic and kind of message you picked, your message, the website page you sent it from, and — only if you fill them in — a name and an email address for our reply. The form sets no cookies and does not collect your device ID.
We use your email address only to answer that message, and we delete it automatically when the conversation is closed. If you pick Shadecrest and Bug, your message and the name you gave (if any) are also added to Shadecrest's bug reports so we can track the fix alongside in-game reports; your email address is never copied there. If you email us directly, we receive what you send in that email.
We use the information described above only to:
We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising or profiling.
The App relies on the following third-party services to provide its online features. Each operates under its own privacy policy, which governs how it handles data on its servers:
Any time the App communicates with these services over the network, your device's IP address is necessarily visible to them as part of standard internet infrastructure — neither the services nor the App use it to identify you personally, and the App does not separately log or store it.
Entries on the global leaderboards — including your chosen display name, anonymous device ID, class, and scores — are visible to any player who opens the leaderboard screen. Please choose a display name you're comfortable sharing publicly.
Gameplay data, cloud backups, leaderboard entries, and bug reports are retained on our servers to keep leaderboards functional and backups restorable. Website contact messages are kept as a record of the conversation; the reply email address on a message is deleted as soon as that conversation is closed. To have a message you sent deleted sooner, email us and tell us roughly when you sent it. Local data (your save slots, statistics, unlocks, and settings) remains on your device until you remove it.
Delete All Data: Settings → Delete All Data permanently erases your local run history, statistics, Hall of Fame records, class progression, and settings from your device; sends a request to remove your leaderboard entries, cloud backup, session records, and submitted bug reports from our servers; and clears your anonymous device ID and display name. A new random device ID is generated if you continue using online features.
The server-side deletion request requires a working network connection. Your local data is always erased immediately regardless. If you were offline or the request failed, contact us at support@ahemstudios.com with your old device ID (visible in Settings before deletion) and we will remove it manually.
Shadecrest is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The App does not ask for your age, name, email, or any other identifying information. If you believe a child has provided us with information through a bug report or display name, contact us at support@ahemstudios.com and we will delete it.
We take reasonable measures to protect the information described in this policy, but no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. Because the App does not collect real-world personal information, the practical impact of any breach is limited to anonymous gameplay data, display names, and device IDs.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time — for example, if we add new online features. Material changes will be reflected by an updated "Effective date" at the top of this document. Continuing to use the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
